An automotive dealer needed to trace every individual unit by serial number — from purchase to sale — but standard Business Central flows did not capture serials the way their sales and purchase process demanded.
For an automotive dealer, every unit is unique and has to be accounted for individually — by serial number, from the moment it is purchased to the moment it is sold and serviced. Without that traceability, warranty, recalls, and stock accuracy all become guesswork.
What we built
We extended Business Central's sales and purchase flows with serial-based item tracking tailored to how the dealer actually works — capturing serials at the right points and carrying them through the whole document lifecycle.
How it works
- Serial capture built into the sales and purchase document flows
- Custom tracking tables that record each unit's full history
- Customer-facing reporting for complete unit traceability
- AL customizations that fit the dealer's existing process, not the other way round
When every unit is worth thousands, "roughly how many do we have" is not good enough. Serial-level tracking turns inventory into fact.
